Meet Our Music Director
We are proud to announce the appointment of conductor Kelly Kuo as the Reno Chamber Orchestra’s next Music Director. Kuo is the RCO’s third Music Director, and will begin his role in July, 2021.
Kuo’s engagement comes after an almost four year search to replace former Music Director Theodore Kuchar. Beginning with a pool of over 140 applicants for the music director position, “we saw six incredible finalists, making this a very tough decision,” adds Search Committee chair and RCO principal bassist Scott Faulkner. “After considering all of them and our goals for the orchestra, we are very happy Kelly Kuo has agreed to join us.” The Search Committee, comprised of musicians, community members, and board members, unanimously selected Kuo after his performance with the orchestra in May 2021.
RCO musicians rated Kuo highly for his demeanor, communication, and efficiency, and audiences were taken by his programming philosophy and passion for music education throughout the community.
“It is a great privilege to join the Reno Chamber Orchestra family as its next Music Director,” said Kuo. “I look forward to collaborating with its wonderful team of musicians, staff, and board to further develop RCO’s musical connection to the diverse people and cultures that make up the Reno community.”
Kuo will open the Reno Chamber Orchestra’s 2021/22 Season in October 2021. The program includes Mozart’s “Jupiter Symphony” and “Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat Major.”
The full RCO season will be announced and subscriptions will go on sale in August, at which time the winter Nevada Chamber Music Festival will also be announced.
2021/22 Season SUBSCRIPTIONS AVAILABLE AUGUST 2021.
